John Dennis "Buzzy" Berki's Obituary
John Dennis "Buzzy" Berki, age 83, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024, at Perrysburg Mercy Health Hospital. Born on August 18, 1940, in Lorain, Ohio, John was the cherished son of John and Julia (nee Pongracz) Berki.
John was a proud Alumnus of Clearview High School, class of 1958 and attended Bowling Green State University prior to serving in The United States Army. He was an artillery draftsman stationed at Fort Lewis Army Base in Tacoma, Washington. Upon his honorable discharge, John purchased his beloved 1965 Corvette Stingray, which he famously drove home in, marking the beginning of a lifelong passion for Corvettes.
He dedicated 29 years of his career as a chemical operator at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake, retiring in 1995. His commitment to hard work was matched by a devotion to his faith. John was a life-long member of The Hungarian Reformed Church in Lorain, where he was active in the Men’s Brotherhood.
As laid back as they come, John was known for his kindness, patience, and unwavering love for his family. He enjoyed antique car shows, cruise-ins, polka music, and family parties. He was affectionately dubbed a member of the “Clean Plate” club by his family and would never turn down the opportunity to stop for a twist cone. He adored his sweetheart, Laura Lee, and was a shining example of a loving husband and father.
John is survived by his loving daughters, Jennifer (Les) Varga of Cumming, GA; Karen (Robert) Monard of Perrysburg, OH; and Lesley (Bradley) Moore of Wakeman, OH. He was the proud grandfather of Lauren, Evan, Aaron, and Madelyn Varga, and is also survived by his brother, Louis Berki. John was preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Laura Lee (nee Zaroslinski) Berki, and his parents, John and Julia Berki.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, 44805 N. Ridge Road, Amherst, OH.
