John Arthur Dietz's Obituary
John Arthur Dietz, age 86, of Elyria passed away on Thursday, January 12, 2023 at Mercy New Life Hospice. He was born on July 31, 1936 in Smithton, Pennsylvania to Joseph and Mary (Horne) Dietz.
He was a 1954 graduate of South Huntingdon High School in Ruffsdell, Pennsylvania. John enlisted with the United States Air Force on January 5, 1955 and was honorably discharged at the rank of Sgt on December 4, 1958.
He made his career as an Air Traffic Controller in Pittsburg, PA before being transferred to Oberlin, Ohio retiring in 1985 after 25 years of service. John enjoyed flying planes and woodworking.
John is survived by his wife and “high school sweetheart” of 66 years, Josephine (nee Barcarolo) Dietz; son, Joseph Dietz; and his sister, Margaret Herron.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Mary Dietz; and siblings, Gloria Harvison, Joseph Dietz, George Dietz, James Dietz, Bertha Dietz, Josephine Yokiel, and Thelma Gavlak.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, January 17, 2023 from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Private family interment services will take place at Ridge hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
