John J. Ivan Jr.'s Obituary
John J. Ivan, of Lorain passed away on Friday, May 9, 2025 at the age of 77.
He was born on June 14 ,1947, in Lorain, Ohio, where he lived his entire life and was a 1965 graduate of Admiral King High School. After high school, he was drafted and proudly served in the United States Army from 1967 until being honorably discharged in 1969, earning the rank of Sgt E-5.
John was employed by the Ford Motor Company, in the maintenance department, for almost 33 years before retiring in 2016. He is a member of the United Auto Workers Local 2000. John is a member of the Nativity of the BVM Catholic Church, as well as a life member and Past Exalted Ruler of the Lorain Elks #1301, life member of the AMVETS Erie Post #55, the American Legion Post #397, the Knights of Columbus, the Gibson Lodge F & A.M. #1301, the Elyria Commandery # 60 Knights Templar, and is a 32nd Degree Mason of the Valley of Cleveland.
He enjoyed so many things in life, but one of his favorites was riding his Harley with his grandson Cameron, who shared his love of bikes and riding. John was also a collector of Harley Davidson items, especially watches, and with any free time left he could be found bowling or golfing. John enjoyed trying new restaurants, and loved his time spent with family and friends.
John is survived by his wife Darlene Ivan, son Jamie J. Ivan (Debbie) of Elyria, Ohio, son Jeff York (Darla) of Berlin Center, Ohio, his grandchildren: Hailey Ivan (Megan), Amber Ivan, Lindsey Ivan, Tanis York (Samantha), Cameron York (Caila), his 3 great-grand daughters: Carly Jo York, Ariella Nelson, Elanor York, one great-grandson Noah Nelson. his brother Alan Ivan (Dolores) of Wooster, Ohio, his sister Donna Wagner (John) of Akron, Ohio, as well as many nieces and nephews. John was preceded in death by his father John Ivan Sr.; Mother, Hellen Ivan (Posvenchuck); and Linda Ivan (Bennett).
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, May 14, 2025 from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, May 15th at 11:00 a.m. at Nativity BVM Catholic Church, 418 W. 15th. Street, Lorain, OH Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate.
