John J. Kula's Obituary
John J. Kula, age 79, of Lorain passed away on Wednesday, August 10, 2022 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain.
He was born on March 16, 1943 in Cleveland, Ohio to John George & Irene (nee Planavsky) Kula. John enlisted with the United States Air Force on March 17, 1964 and was honorably discharged on March 15, 1968 after serving during the Vietnam War.
John made his career in banking in 1972 with Key Bank serving in various positions. He retired in 2002 from Key Bank as a project manager.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst and a proud member of the VFW, American Legion, and the DAV.
Building models, gardening, and traveling brought him much joy. He traveled to 6 of the 7 Continents missing only Antarctica. John and wife and children traveled the world and made many memories that will last them a lifetime.
It was important to John to always strive to be a good person and always do the right thing. He lived by that. He was a wonderful and giving husband and father and loved to help others.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Geraldine (nee Nadwodny) Kula; and his sons, John David Kula, and Gregory Michael Kula.
John was preceded in death by his parents, John George and Irene Kula; and his brother, George Michael.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 16, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. at the Church. Rev. Father Timothy O’Connor, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will take place on Wednesday, August 17, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery, 10175 Rawiga Road, Seville, OH 44273.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of John to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 7023, Merrifield, VA 22116, the Humane Society of Erie County, 1911 Superior St., Sandusky, OH 44870, or to St. Joseph School for Native Americans, 1301 N. Main St., Chamberlain, SD 57325.
