John Walter Mamrak Sr.'s Obituary
John Walter Mamrak Sr., 78, of Elyria passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, in Lorain, Ohio after battling many health issues. He passed peacefully in his sleep.
He was born on November 12, 1939 in Scothaven, PA to Michael and Blondell (nee Coole) Mamrak. He moved to Ohio in 1947 and resided in Lorain, Elyria, and Vermilion. He was a 1958 graduate of Clearview High School.
John enlisted with the United States Navy while still in high school. Upon his graduation he went on to serve with the Navy for 4 years. After his honorable discharge he continued with the Navy as a reservist
He was a member of the Ely Masonic Lodge # 424, where he served as Master of the Lodge from 1978-1979. He was a lifetime member of the AMVETS, of Vermilion. He enjoyed playing cards with his wife and friends, as a part of the Friendship Club for over 50 years.
John also enjoyed his gardens, model car collection, and was a big fan of all the Cleveland sports teams.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Janet (nee Maurer), his daughter, Lori A. Collins; son, John W. (Felicia) Mamrak; grandsons, Jason (Jennie) Collins, and Chad Collins, of California; great-granddaughter, Keanna Collins; great-grandsons, Kaleb Collins, Maxx Collins, and Dalton Schneiter; brothers, Larry (Ellen) Mamrak, and Robert (Elyn) Mamrak; sisters, Geraldine (Gerald) Fazekas, of Columbus, Marline (Michael) Slivek, of Florida, Sharon (Stan) Artar, of Avon Lake, Michalene McKinnon, of Scottsdale, AZ, and Debra (Robert) Middleton, of LaGrange, GA; sister-in-law, Barb Miller, of Lorain; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Kimberly Mamrak Murray; grandchildren, Jeanette Mamrak, Tara Mosely, and Joshua Mamrak; parents, Michael and Blondell Mamrak,; sister, Catherine Miller; and his brother, Michael “Buddy” Mamrak.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 3:00 – 4:30 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral 7 Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Following the visitation at 4:30 p.m. the Ely Masonic Lodge #424 will conduct Masonic Services followed by a funeral service at 5:00 p.m. officiated by Sandra Schoonmaker Hirt all in the funeral center.. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
