John P. McBride's Obituary
John P. McBride, age 80, of Vermilion and formerly of Cleveland, passed away Tuesday, December 31, 2013.
He was born on February 1, 1933 in Cleveland to the late William and Julia (nee Doran) McBride. He graduated from Cathedral Latin High School and furthered his studies at Fenn College.
John served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict.
For 19 years, he worked at Bettcher Industries in Birmingham, Ohio as a purchasing manager. He retired in 1997. After retiring, he began working at Giant Eagle in Amherst, where he was employed part-time for the last 15 years.
He was an active member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a former member of the church council. He was involved in many civic activities. Formerly a member of Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church in Cleveland prior to moving to Vermilion.
John is survived by his wife of 22 years, Katherine Marie (nee Nau); his sons, Dennis (Michelle) McBride, of Avon and Michael (Maria Elena) McBride, of Virginia Beach, VA; his daughters, Maureen (Bud) Stanner, of Naples, FL, Mary Catherine (Mike) Daughtry, of St. Pete Beach, FL; Ann (Rig) Goss, of Russell Township, OH; his grandchildren, Sara Christie Vega, Ryan McBride, Grace McBride, and Jack McBride.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Nora Jordan, Geraldine “Gerry” Miller and Mary Pagel.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 3, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Friends may also call on Saturday, January 4th from 10:00 a.m. until the time of funeral mass at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Rev. Fr. Ron Brickner, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date.
