John M Smith's Obituary
John M. Smith, age 71, a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away on Thursday, September 28, 2017 after battling cancer.
He was born on August 8, 1946 in Lorain, Ohio to John and Elizabeth (nee Buga) Smith and graduated from Admiral King High School in 1965. John made his career as a machinist for 30 years at US Steel, retiring in 2000.
John loved to play golf and upon his retirement he worked part time at Fox Creek Golf Club. He was an avid motorcycle/ drag car racer winning the World Bracket Finals in Bristol, TN and multiple championships at Norwalk and Dragway 42.
He is survived by his sons, Brian, of Amherst, and Jason, of Columbia Station; and his companion of 7 years, Carla Mullins.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donetta; and his parents, John and Elizabeth Smith.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, September 30, 2017 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
