Joseph Dan Azok's Obituary
Joseph Daniel Azok, known to many as “Dan,” passed away on Friday, December 19, 2025, at Ganzhorn Suites in Avon, at the age of 79.
He was born on April 2, 1946, in Lorain, Ohio, to Joe and Ann (née Swetz) Azok. Dan was a 1964 graduate of Admiral King High School. He continued his education at The Ohio State University, where he earned his Bachelor of Education degree in Industrial Arts in 1973.
Dan dedicated his professional life to education, serving as an Industrial Arts teacher with the Lorain City Schools. He retired in 2009 after many years of shaping young minds and sharing his love of working with his hands. In addition to teaching, Dan worked installing garage doors with Azok Garage Doors and DiFranciso Garage Doors, also retiring from that career in 2009.
He proudly served his country in the United States Army, attaining the rank of Sergeant and serving during the Vietnam War. Dan was honorably discharged on October 26, 1969.
Dan was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst. He also belonged to the Polish Fisherman’s Club and a local gun club. In his free time, he enjoyed gardening, woodworking, flying and airplanes, fishing, hunting, collecting coins, and golfing. Above all, he cherished time spent with his family.
He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father and grandfather, a caring son, and a loyal friend.
Dan is survived by his wife of 50 years, Donna (née Zack) Azok; his sons, Dr. Joseph “Joe” Azok of Pepper Pike and Steve Azok of Amherst; his grandchildren, Ben, Katie, and Avery Azok; his sister, Jo Ann White; and his brother, William “Bill” Azok.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Ann Azok, and his parents-in-law, Tom and Mary Zack.
Dan’s legacy of service, craftsmanship, and love for his family will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.
The family will receive friends on Friday, January 9, 2026 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, Ohio. Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 11:00 a.m. Rev. Father Timothy O’Connor, Pastor, will officiate. Inurnment will take place on Saturday, January 10th at 9:30 a.m. at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain. Military Honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of Dan to Cypress Hospice, 2 Berea Cmns #1, Berea, OH 44017.
