Joseph A. Rangel's Obituary
Joseph A. Rangel, age 76, of Lorain, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, October 1, 2017.
He was born on March 22, 1941 in Youngstown, but lived his entire life in Lorain. He attended Lorain High School. After high school, he enlisted and served in the United States Army in 1959 until being honorably discharged in 1961. He was proud to specialize in being a cook while serving his country in the Army.
Joseph worked as a welder for US Steel for 35 years. While working at the steel mill, he also volunteered for the Lorain County Auxiliary Sherriff’s Department. After his retirement from the mill, he then went to work part time as an assembler for Western Enterprises for another 13 years.
He was a member of the Church of St. Peter and was a Fourth Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the American Legion Post 118, the VFW Post 451, and in his earlier years, The Stylers Custom Club.
Joseph liked to stay busy. Amongst his countless hours of volunteer and charity work, he truly enjoyed cooking and baking. He enjoyed being a fan of the Cleveland Browns and Indians, and also enjoyed bowling and going camping.
He will be missed by his 2 sons; Joseph (Nanette) and Jeffery (Laurie), both of Amherst, his grandchildren; Jeffrey (Jennifer) Williamson, Courtney, Cassie, Jeffery, Holley, AJ, and Devon Rangel, his great granddaughter, Alexia Williamson, brother, Tony (Judy), of Lorain, niece, Sherry Rangel, and nephew, Tony, Jr. He is also survived by his sisters; Dolly Gonzalez and Linda Kraft, both of Lorain, and of course, his beloved cat, “Patches.”
Joseph was preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Kathleen (nee Jacobs) Rangel, on July 3, 2015, and his parents, Antonio Rangel and Mary (nee Bokary) Rangel Mendoza Foster.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 5, from 4 – 7 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. His Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, at 9:30 am, at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. EVERYONE IS TO MEET AT CHURCH PLEASE. Interment will be at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, at a later date.
