Joseph Peter Valentin's Obituary
Joseph Peter Valentin, age 70, of Lorain passed away on Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at his home. He was born on March 15, 1947 in Bronx, New York to Isaac and Mildred (nee Rivera) Valentin.
He enlisted with the United States Army on January 29, 1965, serving his country during the Vietnam War. While enlisted he received the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal (1st. Award), Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Marksman Badge (m-14) and the Expert Badge (M-14). He was honorably discharged on January 28, 1968.
Joseph retired from the Ford Motor Company Truck Plant in Kentucky. Prior to working at Ford he was employed by General Motors.
He was a member of the Christian Temple in Lorain, the American Legion Post 118, in Amherst, and a lifetime member of the VFW, in Lorain.
He was an Ohio State Buckeyes fan, Cleveland sports fan, especially the Cleveland Indians, as he was their #1 fan and never missed a game. He also enjoyed singing, going to the movies, playing dominoes, and taking long drives. He loved and adored his family and will be greatly missed.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 19 years, Mary Lou (nee Hughes) Valentin; daughters, Mildred Medina, of Cleveland, and Michele (Martin Bober) Valentin, of Fort Myers, FL; step-children, Brendon Minnich, of Lorain, and Stephanie (Justin) Harnisfager (nee Minnich); grandchildren, Jasmine Valentin Chea, Isaiah Torres, Ryan Valentin, Marisol Acosta, Matisse Bober, Mason Bober, and Joshua Valentin; great-grandchildren, Aliyah Torres, Julia Chea, Mariana McCourt, and William McCourt; and his sisters, Maria Nazario, Elizabeth Alvarez, and Cessie Valentin.
The family will receive friends on Saturday, December 9, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A memorial service will follow the gathering at 12:00 noon in the funeral center.
