Joseph Zvosecz's Obituary
Joseph V. Zvosecz, Sr., age 83, of Lorain, passed away following a lengthy illness, on Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at Avon Oaks Nursing Home while under the care of New Life Hospice.
Born April 25, 1928 in Lorain to the late John and Katie (nee Horvath) Zvosecz, he resided here his entire life. Joseph graduated from Lorain High School.
He served in the U.S. Navy and received the World War II Victory Medal.
For over 40 years, he worked at Lorain Works/US Steel as an instrument repairman.
He was a member of Mary Mother of God Parish and the SNPJ Croatian Lodge. For over 20 years, Joseph was active in the Lorain Little League Program as a coach, manager and umpire. He also had volunteered his time as a den father and cub master for Boy Scouts. For many years, Joseph was a premiere table top shuffleboard player winning many league championships. He also enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing. Most recently, he was a crossword puzzle enthusiast.
Joseph is survived by his wife of 60 years, Judy (nee Flaherty); 3 sons, Joseph, of St. Clairsville, OH, John (Mary Theresa), of Lorain, and Jim, of Madison, OH; Grandchildren, Dr. Nicole (Dr. Dan) Carmichael, Katie (Sam Stoddard) Zvosecz, Zachary Zvosecz, Alexandria Zvosecz, Dorothy Zvosecz, Lillian Zvosecz, and Julia Zvosecz; and his sister, Frances Kozma, of Lorain.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Opsincs and Anna Zvosecz .
The family will receive friends at a memorial gathering on Friday, February 17th from 4-8 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. The family also invites friends to attend a memorial mass on Saturday, February 18th at 11:00 a.m. at Mary Mother of God Parish, 309 7th St, Lorain. Rev. Fr. Daniel Divis, pastor, will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted at the church immediately following the mass. Burial will be held privately at a later date in Calvary Cemetery.
