Judit K. Palotai's Obituary
Judit K. Palotai, aged 78, passed away suddenly on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at Mercy New Life Hospice. Born in Budapest, Hungary, on June 13, 1946, to Laszlo and Hedvig (nee Grosz) Szecsodi, Judit’s life journey took her across continents and through numerous adventures.
In 1970, she embarked on a new chapter by immigrating from Hungary to South Africa, and in 1979, she continued her journey to the United States, to Cleveland, Ohio and eventually making Lorain, Ohio her home. Despite the challenges of restarting her life in several countries, Judit’s resilience and determination shone through.
Judit was originally educated in Hungary in Industrial Arts. She switched her career path to nursing several years later after arriving in the United States in order to give her family a better life.

In 1996, she earned her Nursing Degree from Lorain County Community College and shortly thereafter became a Registered Nurse. Her career in home health care for Elyria Memorial Hospital highlighted her exceptional skills, especially in wound care. In addition to being fluent in several languages, Judit was known for her strength, independence, and as a true inspiration to her children.
Judit had a deep love for animals, especially her beloved cats, Cicero and Mici. She also showed Afghan Hound Dogs while living in South Africa. Her artistic talents, passion for reading, and culinary skills, particularly in Hungarian cuisine, were cherished by all who knew her.
She is survived by her children, Dorothy (Marty) Pummill, Shirley Palotai, Melinda (Jake Morris) Palotai, and Kevin Palotai; her grandchildren, Alex , Izzy, Sami, and Nicky Pummill, Tyler Miranda, and Dominic Morris,; and her brother, Peter Szecsody, of Budapest, Hungary. Judit was preceded in death by her parents, Laszlo and Hedvig Szecsodi; and her beloved cat, Luci.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, July 27, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police, 926 Broadway, Lorain, OH 44052. Light refreshments will be provided. Please bring your favorite memories of Judit to honor and remember her remarkable life and legacy.
