Julius Dettorre's Obituary
Julius Dettorre, age 83, a former resident of Lorain passed away peacefully on Friday, October 2, 2015 at Western Reserve Masonic Community in Medina.
Born on June 28, 1932 to Patsy and Leona (nee Paoloemilia) Dettore, he graduated from Steubenville High School in 1952. Julius enlisted with the United States Air Force on August 4, 1952 and was Honorably Discharged on May 11, 1956 at the rank of Airman First Class.
He made his career at BF Goodrich in Avon Lake, working in both production and in the lab for 38 years, retiring in 1997. Julius and his wife, Joyce, were strong supporters of Lorain Catholic High School where they were very active members of the Band Boosters.
Julius was a member of the Church of St. Peter, the I.A.V., and the Medina Masonic Lodge, and worked as a volunteer in cardiac rehab at Mercy Regional Medical Center.
Working outside in his yard and gardening, playing cards, drawing, painting (particularly, watercolors), balloon art and attending Ohio State football games brought him much enjoyment. He cherished his children and 6 granddaughters.
He is survived by his sons, Jay (Gina) of Uniontown, OH and Jeff (Tracy), of Amherst; his daughter, Joy (Cristina), of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; granddaughters, Chelsea, Meredith, Sophia, Madeline, Miah and Emma; brothers, Frank and Alfred; and his sisters, Eleanor Keenen, Jeanette “Ginger” Traux, and Anna Rose Luperello.
Julius was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joyce, on October 24, 2011; his parents, Patsy and Leona; and his brother, George.
The family will receive friends on Monday, October 5, 2015 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Tuesday, October 6, 2015 at 9:30 a.m. in the Funeral Center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave. Lorain. Rev. Fr. Craig Hovanec, Pastor, will officiate. Entombment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
