Karen Lee Matesick's Obituary
Karen Lee Matesick (née Grubic), 73, of Amherst, Ohio, passed peacefully on February 2, 2026, at the David Simpson Hospice House in Cleveland, Ohio. She was born on July 10, 1952, in Lorain to the late David and Helen (née Donath) Grubic and was a lifelong resident of Lorain County.
Karen was a 1970 graduate of Admiral King High School and a longtime parishioner of St. Joseph Catholic Church. A proud Cleveland sports fan, Karen loved cheering on her teams and sharing that enthusiasm with those around her. She was deeply committed to helping others and was especially proud of her service as former President of NAMI of Lorain County, where she was a strong and compassionate advocate for mental health awareness and support.
Known for her kind and generous heart, Karen had a lifelong soft spot for rescue animals and a genuine love for all animals. She also enjoyed attending the Lorain County Fair and was extremely involved in 4-H with her children, especially through the Horse Clubs. Karen’s greatest joy in life was her family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who found her deepest happiness in raising her children and grandchildren and in faithfully attending their activities, events, and milestones.
Karen is survived by her beloved husband of 52 years, Robert Matesick; her loving children, Julie (John “Jay”) Beinhardt, Bobby Matesick, and Jennifer Matesick (Zachary Zoltai); cherished grandchildren, Andrew, Adam, and Elise; her dear brother, David (Libby) Grubic; and many extended family members and friends.
Visitation will be held on Monday, February 9, 2026 from 4-7 PM at Dovin & Reber JonesFuneral and Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, OH 44001. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Tuesday, February 10, 2026 at 10 AM at St. Joseph Parish, 200 St. Joseph Dr. Amherst, Ohio 44001. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Lorain.
