Kenneth A. Roberts' Obituary
Kenneth A. Roberts, age 68, of Amherst, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, July 15, 2017.
He was born to Marvin Kirby and Lorene B. (nee Gardner) Roberts on September 1, 1948 in Parma. Ken was a 1967 graduate of Valley Forge High School. After his honorable discharge from the Army, he attended Ohio State University in Mansfield as well as Cleveland State University. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1968 until 1971, after two tours spent during the Vietnam War. Finally, in 1973, he married the love of his life, Joanne Loretta (nee Toth).
Ken was an insurance agent for Nationwide Insurance Co. for 27 years. Along with being an agent, he maintained and owned numerous rental properties for over 30 years as well. He also served on the 317 Lorain County Board.
Kenneth’s personality is best described as larger than life itself. He was a “professional” at having fun and enjoying life to the fullest. He was always the main attraction for entertainment at gatherings and parties, with his surprises keeping everyone anxiously waiting. He was a friend to everyone, sometimes even more than a friend to many.
Ken’s love and zest for life included spoiling his grandchildren, taking his family on vacations, visiting Las Vegas and Alaska, boating, and fishing. If you could not find him doing any of these, you could definitely find him in his garden.
He will be dearly missed by his beloved wife, Joanne, his precious daughters; Lisa (Don, Jr.) Sutliff and Shannon Roberts, his cherished grandchildren; Jenna Leach, Andrew Sutliff, and Lauren Sutliff, his brother, William G. Roberts, nieces, nephews, his many relatives, and all his friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Marvin Kirby Roberts, Jr.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, July19, from 4 – 8 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, where his funeral service will be held on Thursday, at 11:00 am. The Rev. Fr. John C. Retar, Pastor of St. Francis Cabrini Parish, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain, with full military honors being provided by the Amherst Veterans Honor Guard.
