Lance David Hall's Obituary
Lorain - United States Marine Lance Corporal David R. Hall, age 31, of Lorain, died on Monday, August 31, 2009 while serving his Country in Afghanistan as part of Operation Enduring Freedom. David was a member of Company G, 2nd Battalion, 8th Marines, the 2nd Marine Division. David previously served his Country in Iraq in 2007-2008, as part of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
David was born on June 29, 1978 in Cleveland, Ohio as a premie weighing only three pounds and 4 and one-half ounces. He grew up to be very strong, serving as the starting quarterback of the Southview High School football team and leading the team to one of the most victorious seasons in the school's history. He was offered a full ride scholarship to play football in Greensborough, North Carolina, but turned it down to travel to Chicago and begin seeing other parts of the world.
As a high school student, David along with his family hosted several international exchange students from Italy, Brazil, Yugoslavia and Germany. David himself traveled to Brazil after graduating high school to stay with the family of an exchange student that he had once hosted. David's love for travel and fondness for people from all walks of life and all different lands was sparked by these experiences.
David's passions included studying the bible, learning about different people and cultures, personal health and fitness, art, music, and literature. He embraced life and freedom to its fullest, and learned to never take for granted the simplest of God's blessings. His dream was to get married and to become a father. While he did not have the opportunity to have his own children, he played and will continue to play a very significant role in the lives of his niece and eight nephews.
Prior to joining the Marines in 2006, David was employed by Ford Motor Company for six years at both the Lorain and Avon plants where he was a member of the United Auto Workers Locals 425 and 2000.
David is survived by his father and mother Del and Lulu (nee Hamilton) Hall of Lorain; sister Tracy Holmes of Lorain; sister Lora Hall of Lorain; sister and brother-in-law Wendy and David Dull of Elyria; and nephews and niece Brandon Holmes, Udell Holmes the III, Xavier Holmes, Devin Holmes, Trey Knowles, Darien Knowles, Kyle Dull, Zachary Dull, and Katherine Dull.
David is preceded in death by his grandparents, James David and Maggie Irene Hall, Theodore Rosevelt "Teddy" and Zona Bell Hamilton and niece, Angel Holmes.
