Larrie Eugene Young's Obituary
Larrie Eugene Young, born on October 10, 1934, in Loudonville, Ohio to George Raymond and Blanche Mae (nee VanHorn) Young passed away on Sunday, October 31, 2021, at Mercy New Life Hospice Center in Lorain at the age of 87. He was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2007 and battled the disease for 14 years.
He was a 1952 graduate of Loudonville High School. He went on to further his education at Kent State University earning a bachelor’s degree in industrial arts in 1956 and his master’s degree in industrial arts in 1962. Larrie made his career in education as a teacher at Strongsville High School from 1956-1960 and Oberlin High School from 1960-1984. He also worked as a salesman and maintenance supervisor at JC Penney Department store from 1964- 2000, and for many years had his own lawnmower repair service.
Larrie was an active member of Heritage Presbyterian Church in Amherst where he helped with Second Harvest, sang in the choir for many years and helped with the planning and construction of the addition of the church in 2005.
He and his wife Pat were proud of the 5 years they spent at Camp Pemigewassett in Wentworth, New Hampshire, (a sleepaway summer camp for boys), they loved riding their bikes and packing a lunch and a tablecloth. They also loved to travel and enjoyed numerous cruises and bus trips with many of their friends.
Larrie enjoyed playing golf and was quite the handyman, there was nothing he could not fix. He designed and helped build a 30ft. x 40 ft., 4 car garage and apartment that was definitely a labor of love.
His most treasured time was the time he spent with his wife, children, and grandchildren.
