Larry E. Simmons' Obituary
Larry E. Simmons (86), of Lorain, Ohio passed away on Sunday, March 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of New Life Hospice.
Larry was born to James and Alma (Pickrell) Simmons on June 24, 1937, in Cassity, West Virginia. He graduated in 1957 from Coalton High School. Growing up, Larry worked on the family farm, and during his high school years worked at a local logging mill. Following graduation, he moved to Lorain, OH, and began working at General Motors in Parma. After 32 years of service to GM, Larry retired in 1992. He was an auto mechanic, and in his time, his friends and family knew he could fix any car that was brought to him.
Larry is survived by his two sons Clifton (Kathy) of Elyria and Matthew of Lorain as well as a daughter DeAnna (Bill) of Vermillion. He is also survived by his grandchildren Michael (Adriana), Kassandra (Shawn), Victoria, Alexandra, Carson, and Caidon, as well as his great-grandchildren Madilynn, Kendall, and Owen. Additionally, Larry is survived by his siblings Helen, Jim, Ray, Elsie, Clinton, and Delmer along with many nieces and nephews. Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie, in 2005, his parents, James and Alma, great-granddaughter, Olivia, and his siblings Ida, Betty, John, and Carl.
Aside from his love of tinkering with cars, Larry enjoyed hunting, antique vehicles, and watching westerns. He was a member of the UAW and the Coon Hunter’s Club.
Larry’s family will receive friends on Thursday, March 28, 2024 from 2:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral &Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 29th at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral center. The Reverend Lorri Bandagski of Bethel Chapel will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst, Ohio.
