Lawrence "Sonny" Pete's Obituary
Lawrence “Sonny” Pete, age 73, of Amherst passed away peacefully Sunday, January 19, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph.
He was born on January 7, 1941 in Wakeman, Ohio to Steve and Dora (nee Jackson) Pete and attended Firelands Schools. Sonny enlisted with the United States Army National Guard on September 12, 1962 and was honorably discharged on September 11, 1965 after serving a three year enlistment.
Sonny was a member of St. Peter United Church of Christ in Amherst, Gibson Masonic Lodge #301, Amherst VFW, the Wellington Eagles and the Scottish Rite of Cleveland.
He was an avid sportsman and enjoyed golf and softball. His family was very important to him and loved spending time with them.
Sonny is survived by his wife of 48 years, Susan (nee Frederick); sons, Steven L. (Colleen), of Wellington, Lance W. (Theresa), of Marysville and Brent C. (Colleen), of Amherst; grandchildren, Kelly, Robert, Steven and Kyle; father, Steve Pete; sister, Carol Law.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Dora Pete; brothers, Kenneth and Robert Pete; father and mother-in-law, Louis and Donna Frederick; and his granddog, Macy.
The Pete family will receive friends on Saturday, January 25, 2014 from 10:00 – 12:00 noon in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst where a memorial service will follow the visitation at 12:00 noon. Services will be conducted by the Gibson Masonic Lodge # 301. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in memory of Sonny to New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
