Leo Bascone's Obituary
Leo S. Bascone, 85 of Lorain, passed away Monday, March 11, 2013 at his residence while under the care of New Life Hospice following a lengthy illness.
Born August 8, 1927 in Lorain, he lived in Lorain his entire life. Leo graduated from Lorain High School in 1945B. He then studied accounting at Bowling Green State University and was a member of Theta Chi.
Leo served two terms in the US Navy, receiving the National Defense Service Medal, Victory Medal and the American Area Campaign Medal.
After 37 years of service, Leo retired in 1991 from Ford Motor Company where he worked as a pipe fitter. He was a member of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church, Lorain, the Italian American Veterans Post #1, and the United Auto Workers Union 425.
He enjoyed sailing, gardening, tennis, golfing, reading, and was a master at crossword puzzles. For many years, Leo and Dolores enjoyed wintering in Naples, Florida.
Surviving is his wife of 62 years, Dolores (nee Fior); his son Perry (Bernadette) Bascone of Lorain; daughters, Kathy (Kevin) Stitak of Lorain and Sandy (Stuart) Bascone-Jones of South Amherst; grandchildren, K.C. Stitak, Katie Stitak, Jack Stitak, Dominic (Megan) Bascone, Daniel Bascone and David Bascone; brothers, Anthony Bascone and Joseph Bascone both of Lorain.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Angeline (nee Totta) Bascone.
The Bascone family will receive friends on Thursday from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be Friday at 12:00 pm in the funeral center. Rev. Robert Glepko, pastor of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park with military honors.
