Leopoldo N. "Bebing" Cayayan Jr.'s Obituary
Leopoldo N. "Bebing" Cayayan Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and community member, passed away on August 19, 2024, after a courageous five-year battle with cancer. He was 71 years old.
Leo was born on March 25, 1953, in Bacolod City, Philippines. He spent his formative years in the Philippines, where he attended Holy Trinity High School before pursuing higher education at the University of the Philippines, Los Banos. There, he earned his associate's degree in Forestry, setting the foundation for a long and successful career.
In 1988, Leo moved to the United States, where he established himself as a respected land surveyor. Over his 30-year career, he worked with several companies, including R.E. Warners and K.S. Associates. His precision and dedication to his craft made him a trusted professional in his field. In addition to his work as a surveyor, Leo had a side job with Balikbayan Boxes, where he took great pride in assembling and shipping packages to loved ones back in the Philippines.
A devoted member of St. Joseph Church in Amherst, Leo was deeply involved in his community. He was a member of the Knights of Rizal and Filipino American Foundation of Ohio (FAFO), organizations that allowed him to stay connected to his Filipino heritage and give back to others. Leo was also a passionate soccer player, participating in a team formed by one of his employers, where he built lasting friendships.
Outside of work and community service, Leopoldo enjoyed a variety of hobbies. He loved fishing during the summer months and was an avid DIY enthusiast, always eager to fix things around the house with his own hands. Cooking, traveling, and spending time with his family brought him immense joy. Leo’s warmth, generosity, and hands-on approach to life will be remembered by all who knew him.
Leopoldo N. "Bebing" Cayayan Jr. leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication. He will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Elsie D. “Bing” (nee Danao) Cayayan, his children, Leopoldo III (Elise) Cayayan, of Aurora, CO, Clarlin (Dustin) Harshbarger, of Austin, TX and Lyndon Cayayan, of Amherst, grandchildren, Leopoldo “Lync” Cayayan IV, Miles Harshbarger and Lucas Cayayan (due November 2024), and his siblings, Lionel (Ninfa), of Solon, OH, Levi (Lyndee), of Philippines, Lemuel (Milagros), of Philippines, Leonidas (Merlie), of Philippines, Chona (Romy) Rempillo, of Philippines and Charess (Manuel) Cuba, of Parma, OH.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leopoldo Sr. & Clarissa (nee Natividad) Cayayan and two brothers, Larry (Emelita) and Ludy (Ligaya).
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 30th, 2024 from 3 -7 pm at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Friends will also be received on Saturday, August 31st, from 8:30 – 9:30 am at St. Joseph Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst, OH 44001. His Mass of Catholic Burial will immediately follow the visitation. Rev. Fr. Timothy J. O’Connor, Pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow Mass at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
