Leta Mae Hilliard's Obituary
Leta Mae Hilliard, age 63, died peacefully at home on Sunday evening, January 7, 2018, from her struggle with ALS. She was born in Lorain, at St. Joseph’s Hospital, on June 8, 1954, to Arthur and Ruth (nee Furniss) Hilliard.
Leta was a graduate of Amherst Steele High School. After graduation, she went to work for Ford Motor Company, in Lorain, and then, after a few years there, she went to work at P.C. Campana in Lorain. Most recently, she was employed at Lithonia Lighting Company in Vermilion, until retiring from there so that she could be at home to care for her mom. She loved taking care of her family and was able to do so with great pride just until 3 months ago.
Leta was quite fond of wildlife, always feeding the birds and squirrels. She also enjoyed gardening, art, puzzles, and Nascar. “Spunky” would describe her personality best. She will forever be remembered as a hard-worker and how you would never have to wonder what she was thinking.
Leta is survived by her son, Robert Brad “Bobby” (Melissa) Hilliard, of Wakeman, her mother, Ruth Ella (nee Furniss) Hilliard, of Amherst, and sisters; Ada May Hilliard, of Amherst and Gladys Ruth McClintock, of Girard, PA.
She was preceded in death by her father, Arthur Ray Hilliard in 1997 and her brother, Arthur Ray Hilliard, Jr. in 2006.
The family will be holding private services at a later date. The Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, is assisting the family with arrangements. To send an online condolence, please go to www.dovinreberjones.com.
