Lorraine O. Springowski's Obituary
Lorraine O. Springowski, age 99, of Elyria Twp. passed away at her home on Thursday, September 15, 2022 under the care of Mercy New Life Hospice.
She was born on August 5, 1923 in St. Louis Park, Minnesota to Lars and Mary (nee Peterson) Olson and was a 1941 graduate of Minneapolis South High School. In October of 1943 Lorraine enlisted with the United States Army. She was stationed at Camp Edwards in Massachusetts. While enlisted she treated and cared for the soldiers that were injured oversees. While at Camp Edwards, she met her husband, John, who was also serving in the US Army.
Lorraine was employed as an Operating Room Technician at Lorain Community Hospital from 1970 until her retirement in 1988. She was a member of STARS (Seniors Teaching and Reaching Students), she participated in the Parent Infant Enrichment Program, and was an active member of the Faith United Methodist Church in Lorain. Lorraine also volunteered with the Vietnam Veterans Moving Wall. She was truly devoted to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children John Springowski Jr., Linda Burbank, Patricia De Bevec, Christine (Robert) Jackson, and Mark (Alice) Springowski; grandchildren, Sean Burbank, Aimee Ackerman, Lenaia Kramer, Edward De Bevec, Magdalene De Bevec, and Sarah Coughlin; and great-grandmother of 5.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, John in 1986; parents, Lars and Mary Olson; siblings, Donald Olson, Virginia Morin, and Floyd Olson; and her daughter-in-law, Rene Springowski.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 21, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. in the funeral center. Pastor Michael Lehman will officiate the service. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.
