Louis Michael Bartal's Obituary
Louis Michael Bartal, 86, of Amherst, Ohio passed away on Saturday, February 13, 2021 at Mercy New Life Hospice Center.
He was born January 9, 1935 in Lorain, Ohio to Louis and Catherine (nee Ellis) Bartal. Louis was a 1954 graduate of Clearview High School. He enlisted with the United States Army on March 21, 1955 in Elyria, Ohio. He served in Germany as a medic and radio operator and was honorable discharged on March 5, 1958.
During high school Louis worked at Thew Shovel. Upon his discharge from the United States Army Louis went on to work at U.S. Steel as a Metallurgist, retiring in 1993 after 38 years of service.
Louis enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing golf, bowling, writing short stories, painting, and woodworking. He loved traveling to Canada. He was a member of the American Legion Post #118, in Amherst and the AMVETS Post #0022.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Audrey Mae (nee Mathewson) Bartal; children, Annette (Donald) Allison, Kim (Brian) Ralich, Jill (Charles) Smith, Louis M. Bartal Jr., Michele Jackson, and Robyn Bartal; 9 grandchildren.
Louis was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Catherine Bartal; and his brother, Steven Bartal.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 21, 2021 from 12:00 – 2:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 2:00 p.m. in the funeral center. Rev. Father Timothy O’Connor, Pastor of St. Joseph Church in Amherst, will officiate. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, Ohio.
