Louis D. Klinar Sr.'s Obituary
Louis D. Klinar, Sr., age 83, of Lorain, passed away at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a long battle of esophageal cancer, which he valiantly fought since 2008.
He was born on February 9, 1938 in Lorain, Ohio, where he lived his entire life. He attended Ss. Cyril & Methodius grade school, Whittier junior high school, and then graduated from St. Mary High School in 1957. After high school, he enlisted in the United States Army where he was stationed in Korea from 1959 until honorably discharged in 1961. When he was honorably discharged, he was ranked as a Corporal, SP4.
Louis was employed by the City of Lorain, for 30 years, as a health inspector/assistant plumbing inspector with the city’s building department. He also worked for the family-owned business, Klinar & Sons Plumbing Company.
He was extremely proud of his Slovenian heritage, and made sure everyone knew it. He participated in many events and activities at the Slovenian Home in Lorain. He was a life-long member and altar server at Ss. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church, where he was a parishioner until their closing in 2011. Currently, he was a member of Nativity of the BVM church in South Amherst. Louis supported the booster club of Lorain Catholic High School, where he enjoyed watching his children excel in multiple sports. He was an avid puzzler and was always looking for ways to help others.
Louis is survived by his children; Bob Klinar, of Lyndhurst, OH, Louis Jr. (Nicki) Klinar, of Waynesville, NC, and Sherri (Matt) Ford, of Canton, GA, and his 9 grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; Gabriel and Antonia (nee Novak) Klinar, and his siblings; John Klinar, Thomas Klinar, Bob Klinar, and Richard Klinar.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, from 4 – 8 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Thursday, at 10:15, also in the funeral center. His Mass of Christian burial will follow, at 11:00 am, at Nativity of the BVM Catholic Church, 333 South Lake Street, South Amherst, OH 44001. Rev. Fr. Timothy O’Connor, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, in Lorain. Full military honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard. We ask that you enter through our main entrance of the funeral center, please pay your respects to the family, and exit through our gathering center door. Face coverings are required, limited seating will be provided for the service to ensure that a six feet separation is maintained.
