Louis Velasquez's Obituary
Louie Velasquez, 59, of Lorain, Ohio, passed away on May 7, 2024 unexpectedly from a brief illness. He was born on May 27, 1964, in Cleveland, OH.
He was a lifetime resident of Lorain and a Graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1982.
Lou was an athletic and strong individual, known for his competitive spirit and routine-oriented nature. Despite his low-key demeanor, he was personable and thoughtful towards others and was a friend to many.
He was a life long bowler, winning many awards and titles both as a Junior Bowler and as an Adult. He bowled at Broadway Lanes, Aquamarine, and Rebmans. In High School, he excelled as a strong 2nd Baseman and Shortstop for the Lorain High Steelman. He lettered in Varsity Baseball and was deemed to be a "solid stick" by local baseball journalists, while averaging a .300 baseball batting average. He continued that love of ball playing through many summers of Men's slow-pitch Softball at Oakwood Park and coaching his son's little league teams.
He dedicated 30 years of his life to the Ford Motor Company, working in the Paint Shop and as an assembler until his retirement in 2021.
Outside of work, Lou found joy in gardening, painting, and being an avid Cleveland sports fan, particularly supporting the Cleveland Guardians and Browns. He cherished spending time at Cedar Point, taking trips to Vegas and visiting casinos and bingo halls with his loving wife, and creating lasting memories with his grandsons, William and Nicholas Prosak.
Lou is survived by his wife of 37 years, Theresa Velasquez, daughters Jackalyn Prosak (Benjamin) and Natalie Velasquez (Brian Kovar), son Anthony Velasquez (Katlyn Baker), Mother ,Betty Velasquez (nee Kenzik), and brothers Michael Velasquez (Lisa), Charles Velasquez, and John Velasquez. He was preceded in death by his father, Louis F. Velasquez, and grandparents John and Mary Kenzik (nee Kuhar) and Juan and Socorro Velasquez (nee Jacinto).
The visitation will be held on Thursday, May 16th, from 3-7 PM at Dovin Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. His funeral Mass will take place on Friday, May 17th, at 1:00 PM at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Elyria, OH. Inurnment will be at a later date.
