Lucius E. "Bert" Corbett's Obituary
Lucius E. “Bert” Corbett, age 88, of Elyria, passed away on Sunday, July 7, 2019 at Hospice of the Western Reserve, Westlake.
He was born on July 5, 1931, in Mustoe, Virginia to the late Charles Cleveland and Lottie Mae (nee Shaffier) Corbett, and is a graduate of Monterey High School. Lucius, along with his late wife, Loxie, moved to this area in 1954. Even though they moved a couple of times after coming here, they still ended up living the rest of their lives together, in Elyria.
He proudly served his country while enlisted in the United States Army from 1952 until honorably discharged in 1954.
Bert worked for Central Transport as a truck driver, where he retired from in 1991. He also worked for Addressograph Multigraph, drove a mail truck for awhile, and most recently, worked at Walmart, until finally retiring from there 2 years ago. Amongst all of these jobs, he went to Real Estate School and earned his license to sell real estate. Prior to any of his work experiences, at the young age of 16, he drove a school bus in Virginia for elementary school kids. He attended Beachland Presbyterian Church and was a member of the Teamsters.
Bert had a knack for making his homemade wine, but he also enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, woodworking, and roller-skating.
Bert will be dearly missed by his daughter, Lynn (John) Nardelli, of Amherst, and his siblings; Dare Waybright, of Crozet, VA, Treva “Betsy” Rankin, of Waynesboro, VA, and Annalee Good, of Grottoes, VA. He is also survived by his many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Loxie L. “Sis” (nee McComb) Corbett, in 2016, and his siblings; Charles C. “Sonny” Corbett, Delana Mae Corbett Shaffier, and Mercedes Virginia Corbett Hicks.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 11, 2019 from 2-4 & 6-8, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. His funeral service will be on Friday, also in the Funeral Center, at 11:00 am. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst, where he will receive full military burial honors.
