Lucy Guzman's Obituary
Lucy Guzman, age 69, of Lorain, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loving family, at her home on December 20, 2016, while under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve.
She was born on March 13, 1947 in San Juan, Puerto Rico and moved to Lorain in 1950. She was a 1966 graduate of Admiral King High School. Lucy worked as a seamstress at Joseph and Feiss for 8 years and also proudly worked in various Lorain City Schools where she assisted with their lunch programs. She was a faithful and loyal member of Sacred Heart Chapel. She and her husband were members of a Christian Prayer Group as well. In her free time, she enjoyed working on ceramics, drawing, arranging flowers, and traveling. Lucy will always be remembered for her kind heart. She was always a giving person and enjoyed visiting the sick and would always bring comfort to many.
She will be missed by her loving husband of 40 years, Alfredo Guzman, Jr., her brother, Jose (Teresa) DeGracia, of Lorain, her sister, Norma (Tom) Ives, of Lorain, niece, Rachel (Rick) Vaughn, of Lorain, nephews; Joseph and Kurt Vaughn, of Lorain, aunts; Delia Otero, of Bayamon, Puerto Rico and Teresa Otero, of Bronx, NY, and her cousins; Milagro Ramos, of Hato Rey, Puerto Rico, and Ana (Myron) Naymik, of Lorain.
Lucy was preceded in death by her parents; Jose and Blanca Rosa (nee Otero) DeGracia and her niece and nephew, Marla and Joseph DeGracia.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 27, from 4-8 pm, in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Friends will also be received on Wednesday, from 8:30 am until the time of her funeral Mass at 9:30, at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain. The Rev. Father William Thaden, Pastor, will officiate. Burial will then follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to be made to either The Sacred Heart Chapel Building Fund, 4301 Pearl Avenue, Lorain, OH 44055, or to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Avenue, Cleveland, OH 44110.
