Mark J. Lukesic's Obituary
Mark J. Lukesic lost a heroic battle to cancer on Sunday, September 8, 2013. He was 60 years old. Mark was surrounded by the most cherished people in his life at his time of passing.
Mark graduated in 1971 from Admiral King High School and went on to Wittenberg University graduating in 1975. He loved sports, played high school and collegiate football and baseball. After college, he returned to his hometown where he continued playing football for Rosie’s Pizza and fast pitch softball with several teams in Lorain. The only thing he loved more than playing sports was coaching. Mark coached high school football for over the past 20 years. He loved teaching the game and seeing his passion in the players he coached. He coached throughout Lorain County: Admiral King, Lorain Catholic, Southview, Elyria Catholic and finally for the Lorain High Titans.
Upon graduating from college Mark was employed by Lorain County Juvenile/Domestic Court, after 10 years of service he moved to State Farm Insurance to begin a career as a claim representative. He also worked for Lorain City Schools as a coach and substitute teacher.
Of all his accomplishments, Mark was most proud of his family. His wife of 37 years, Carol (Dekalich) and his three beloved daughters, Katie (Rob), Lizabeth (Kyle), and Marcy (Mackenzie); brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Delores Brannan; niece, Kelly Brannan; nephew, Christopher Brannan; and sister, Sara (Michael) Duff, survives him.
His parents, Walter and Mary Jayne (Stinson) Lukesic and sister, Amy Lukesic-Price preceded him in death.
Mark fought a devastating diagnosis the same way he approached every challenge in his life: with unbelievable strength, courage, and optimism. He fought incredible hard for everyday he had with his family. His love, humor, and unique insight will be missed and never forgotten. He was a friend to everyone and always the voice of reason.
The family would like to thank the many friends and co-workers who were so very supportive and comforting during the past 9 months. Your good works, thoughts, and prayers will never be forgotten.
The Lukesic family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 11, 2013 from 4:00- 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Private family interment will take place at a later date.
