Martha Ralich's Obituary
Martha Ralich (nee Vorkavich), 94, a life long Lorain resident, passed away on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at New Life Hospice Residential Center following a brief illness.
She was born July 11, 1915 in Lorain to the late Daniel and Anna (nee Vladich) Vorkavich. Martha and her late husband Michael N. where married for 51 years and were the proud parents of Michael (Patricia) of Amherst, David (Karen) of Lorain, and Marsha Ralich of Lorain with whom she made her home. She is the loving grandmother of six and great grandmother of eight.
She was an active member in the Serbian community, precinct committee woman for many years and a homemaker with a passion for cooking and baking. She was proud to have been highlighted in the Morning Journal’s ethnic baker’s section.
Martha was a founding member of St. Mark Serbian Orthodox Church and served the church tirelessly. She sang in the choir, cooked for both the Shadeland and St. Mark camps, and catered for the church. She was a member of the local ladies guild and volunteered for bingo for over 40 years.
She was the last remaining of eleven children, being preceded in death by her brothers, Wasil, Ben, Nick, Michael, Rudy and Eli; sisters, Mary Cica, Mildred Bednarik, Sophia Bunevich, Agnes Malakar, and Dorothy Vorkavich.
Martha lived her faith and had a ready smile for everyone. She will be deeply missed by her numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 27, 2010 at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst, from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where a parastas will be conducted at 7:00 pm. The family will also receive friends on Thursday from 10:00 am until the time of services at 11:00 am at St. Mark Serbian Orthodox Church, 1434 Lake Breeze Road, Sheffield Village. Rev. Father Leontije Alavanja, pastor, will officiate. Burial will follow in St. Mark Cemetery, Sheffield Village.
