Martin Heberling's Obituary
Martin Heberling, age 90, passed away on Tuesday, December 13, 2022 at St. Mary of the Woods in Avon.
He was born September 26, 1932 in Dayton, Ohio to Mathias and Mary (nee Bakan) Heberling. He attended Dayton Chaminade Catholic High School until the age of 16 when he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving as a Hospital Corpsman, Third Class from 1948- 1952 during the Korean War. Martin attended The Ohio State University where he earned his bachelor’s degree in accounting in 1955. In 1955 he went to work for the Upjohn Company, a pharmaceutical manufacturing company. In 1964 he graduated again from Ohio State University where he earned his Doctor of Jurisprudence Degree.
Martin made his career as an attorney with his private law practice, Heberling Law Office, in Amherst. He also served as the Amherst law director and served as a Judge with the Oberlin Municipal Court. He retired in 2001.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Amherst, The Ohio Bar Association, and the Lorain County Bar Association. He enjoyed fishing and traveling throughout numerous countries.
Martin is survived by his children, Marlene (nee Heberling) Burt, of Minnesota, Martin Heberling Jr., of Elyria, and Doug (Jane) Heberling, of Amherst; 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Patricia Heberling; son, Michael Heberling; and his parents Mathias and Mary Heberling.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 20, 2022 from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral center. Rev. Father Timothy O’Connor, Pastor of St. Joseph Church, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery in Amherst.
