Mary Ranck's Obituary
Mary Ranck (nee Ferguson) age 82 of Amherst, passed away on Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Community Health Partners following a short illness. How appropriate that she would pass away on The Ohio State/Michigan game day, as she was an avid Ohio State football fan.
She was born on October 2, 1927 in Columbus, and lived in the Westerville, Ohio area. She has resided in Amherst for the past 44 years. She graduated from Westerville High School in 1945. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Education from Kent State University in 1971.
Mrs. Ranck taught 2nd and 3rd grades at Powers and Harris Elementary Schools in Amherst, retiring in 1990.
She and her husband were members of the Amherst Cotillion Dance Club. She enjoyed playing golf and bowling, as well as reading. Her family was the focus of her life.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Charles E; son, Paul (Marilyn) Ranck, of Flowery Branch, Georgia; daughters, Carol (Jim) Tear, of Amherst, Cheryl (John) Kirschner, of Amherst, and Caren "Susie" (Tom) Godfrey, of Lorain; and son-in-law, Bob Powell; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; sister, Betty J. Washburn, of Georgia.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Reno and Grace (nee Wood) Ferguson, her sisters, Margaret Ralston and Dorothy Reynolds and her twin grandsons.
The family will receive friends on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until the time of funeral service at 7:00 p.m.in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd., Amherst. Rev. Terrance Adamson, of St. Paul Lutheran Church, will officiate. Private interment will be held.
