Matilda "Tillie" Jakubowski's Obituary
Matilda C. Jakubowski (nee Tammaro), 84, died Tuesday, March 22, 2016 at Ames House, Western Reserve Hospice, following a stroke.
She was born October 14, 1931, in Lorain and was a lifelong resident of the city until recently moving to Avon Lake.
She was a loving wife, mother, sister and Godmother to many of her nieces and nephews. She was employed as a cashier at her Godfather’s grocery store, Manhattan Market and also worked briefly as a first grade teacher’s aide and cafeteria monitor with the Lorain Public School System. She enjoyed cooking, flowers, traveling to see family across the U.S. and locally to Amish Country.
She was a parishioner of St. Peter Parish where she taught first grade religious instruction in the early 1960’s. She later attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lorain.
She is survived by her husband of 62 years, James J. Jakubowski Jr. (86) of Avon Lake; a daughter, Karen S. Jakubowski and son, J. Jack Jakubowski and spouse Paul Myers; brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Filomena (nee Pometto) Tammaro; two brothers and two sisters.
The Jakubowski family will receive friends on Thursday, March 24, 2016 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral and Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be at 10:30 a.m. on MONDAY, MARCH 28, 2016 in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of St. Peter, 3655 Oberlin Ave., Lorain. Rev. Father Gerald Keller, will officiate. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
