Matthew D. Smith's Obituary
Matthew David Smith, age 47, of Elyria, passed away after a lengthy illness on Sunday, April 9, 2023 at Mercy Regional Medical Center, Lorain.
He was born on July 31, 1975 in Cleveland, but lived most of his life in Lorain County. He is a 1993 graduate of Lorain Catholic High School and after graduation, continued his education through Lorain County Community College where he earned his Associates Degree. One of Matt’s enthusiasms in life was architecture, which he was proud to make as his career, working as an architectural draftsman. He also enjoyed bowling, and was even on a bowling team at Rebman’s Bowling Alley. Matthew liked working on CAD and Revit drawings, fixing and collecting pocket watches, and watching football, baseball, and hockey. One of his favorite things to do was venture out with his wife for their many nature walks especially visiting numerous caverns and various lighthouses.
He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Elizabeth Ann (nee Henry) and his parents, David & Alison (nee Solderitsch) Smith. He is also survived by his aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 16, 2023 from 12:30 pm until the time of his funeral service at 2:30 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Rev. Fr. Timothy J. O’Connor, Pastor of St. Joseph Church in Amherst, will officiate. Inurnment will take place at a later date at St. Joseph Cemetery, Avon.
