May McCarty's Obituary
May Belle McCarty (nee Hipps), 91, of Sheffield Lake, died Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Avon, while under the care of Hospice of the Western Reserve following a lengthy illness.
Born June 25, 1918 in Greenville, TN, she lived in Ashtabula and Lorain before moving to Sheffield Lake in 1960.
May worked as a machine operator at Tennessee Eastman in Kingsport, TN for 15 years, retiring in 1965. For over 20 years, May babysat many children in Sheffield Lake.
She was a member of First Baptist Church in Sheffield Lake and she enjoyed bowling.
Surviving are her sons, Carleton of Amherst and Tim of Sheffield Lake; step sons, David of Melbourne, FL, and James of Springfield, AL; 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; brothers, Bob of Greenville, TN, and Luke of Aurora, IL; sisters, Olive Bell Vaughan of Nashville, TN, and Hannah Arrington of Rappohanoch, VA.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Maxwell in 1964; parents, Grover and Emaline (nee Coats) Hipps; brothers, Mark, Paul, Harley, Raymond, Clyde, Dwight, Harold and Bryant.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral and Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Rd, Amherst, where funeral services will be Wednesday at 11:00 am. Rev. Jamie Stewart will officiate. Burial will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp.
