Michael L. Costin's Obituary
Michael L. Costin, age 77, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 20, 2026, at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with illness. Born December 11, 1948, in Inglewood, California, Michael was the son of Louis and Shirley (née Kimball) Costin. He graduated from high school in 1966 and shortly thereafter began proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force. Michael was stationed in Vietnam from 1966 to 1970, achieving the rank of Sergeant before being honorably discharged on April 15, 1970. Following his military service, Michael built a long and dedicated career as a Millwright with U.S. Steel, where he worked faithfully for 41 years until his retirement in 2011. Known for his steadfast work ethic and loyalty, he exemplified pride in his craft and camaraderie with his colleagues. Michael was an active member of several organizations, including the Black River Masonic Lodge #786, AMVETS, Amherst Eagles, Lorain Columbian Club, and St. Ladislaus S.B. Society. Beyond his professional and community involvement, Michael’s greatest joy came from spending time outdoors on the golf course, where his love of the game and cheerful personality made him a favorite companion among friends. Those who knew Michael will always remember his infectious smile, his warmth, and his genuine love for people. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose unwavering love and care for his family were his greatest legacy. He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Roberta (née Ksenich) Costin; his children, Myron (Sunny) Costin, Jennifer (Andy) Santoro, and Brian (Kimberly) Costin; grandchildren, Alex Costin, Taylor (Stefan) Kotevski, Cody (Kaylee) Santoro, Michael Costin, and Alexis Costin; and two great-grandchildren, Jack and Max Costin. He is also survived by his brother, Greg (Donna) Costin; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Shirley Costin, and his sister, Sandy Jamison. Family and friends will be received on Friday, February 27, 2026, from 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. in the funeral center, followed by interment at Ridge Hill Memorial Park. Pastor Tony Woodyard will officiate.
