Michael Andrew Dillon's Obituary
Michael Andrew Dillon, age 91, passed away on Friday, February 24, 2017 surrounded by his family at his home in Amherst, Ohio.
Mike was born on August 24, 1925 in the village of O’Callaghan’s Mills, County Clare, Ireland. He immigrated to Montreal Canada in 1951 where he resided for three years until immigrating to Boston, MA in 1954. On November 15, 1958, Mike married Sarah McDonagh at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Brookline, MA. He was employed by Ford Motor Company in Somerville, MA before transferring to the Lorain Assembly Plant in Lorain, OH in 1958 where he worked until retirement in 1991 after 37 years of service. Mike and Sarah resided in Elyria before moving to Amherst where they have lived for the past 56 years.
As a young man, Mike enjoyed playing the national game of Ireland, Hurling. He played in Ireland, Canada, and the Boston area. Later, he enjoyed family functions, working on his farm, restoring antique farm tractors, and bowling.
Mike is survived by his wife of 59 years, Sarah Dillon (nee McDonagh, his sons, Timothy (Annette), Kevin (Anne), Michael Jr. (Laura), Paul (Nancy), John (Carolyn) and Robert; 11 grandchildren; twin brother, Patrick (Josephine); brothers, Edward, Daniel (Joan), Fred (Winifred), and Kevin Dillon; sisters, Margaret “Peggy” (Mossy) Skully, and Bridget (Donal) Cooney; sisters-in-law, Phyllis Dillon and Monica Dillon, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Timothy and Nora (nee Conlon) Dillon; brothers, John, Timothy (Joan), James, and Joseph; sister, Mary (Donald) Murphy; and grandchildren, Matthew, Molly, Margaret Frances, and John Dillon.
The Dillon family will receive friends on Sunday, February 26, 2017 from 3:00 -7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Monday, February 27th. at 12:30 p.m. in the funeral center followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Rev. Father Timothy O’Connor, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions be made in Mike’s name to the Sisters of Notre Dame, 1300 Auburn Road, Chardon, OH 44024.
