Michael E. Machovina's Obituary
Michael E. Machovina, age 65, of Lorain passed away at his home on January 30, 2017 surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on April 14, 1951 in Elyria, Ohio to Edward and Clara Mae (nee Coon) Machovina. He graduated from Midview High School in 1970.
Michael enlisted with the United States Navy on May 10, 1971 and was honorably discharged on June 9, 1975. He worked for Amship, U.S. Steel and the Lorain City Schools, and Lorain County Community College prior to opening Machovina Trucking, where he served as the owner and operator until 1998.
He loved driving his race car, motorcycle, and his Peterbilt. He enjoyed working on his “toys”, and taught his son Zachary how to fix them. Michael was involved with the Boy Scouts and enjoyed camping and deer hunting. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and recently received from former Steelers quarterback, Cliff Stoudt, a phone call and a beautiful letter with 2 personally autographed photographs. This was truly the highlight of Michael’s last three weeks of life. He also loved playing with his beloved Labradoodle, Snickers, who would not leave his bedside. Mike’s life revolved around his family which made his world happy.
Michael is survived by his wife, of 37 years, Denise (nee Brown) , a retired RN who cared for Michael the last 18 years; 2 loving and devoted children who assisted in his care his last few weeks, Nicole (James) Warner, of Rocky River, and Zachary (Sarah) Machovina, of Summerville, SC; 7 loving grandchildren of whom he was extremely proud, Ian Herrmann, Jackson Herrmann, Isabelle Machovina, Logan Machovina, Ryan Machovina, Abigail Machovina, and Eli Machovina; 6 wonderful brothers and sisters who visited often and assisted with his recent care, and provided Mike with hours of love and laughter, Rose Phillips, of North Olmsted, Carol (Robert) Kendle, of Grafton, Edward (Jenniene) Machovina, of Elyria, Joseph (Cathy) Machovina, of Elyria,Daniel (Laura) Machovina, of St. Clairesville, and Christopher (Missy) Machovina, of St. Clairesville; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Clara Mae Machovina.
The Machovina family will receive friends on Thursday, February 2, 2017 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst where funeral services will be held on Friday, February 3rd. at 10:00a .m. Chaplain John Jackson, of Mercy New Life Hospice, will officiate. Interment will follow at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst Twp. Military Honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest contributions be made in memory of Michael to St. Jude’s Children Hospital or to Mercy New Life Hospice.
The family would like to thank Mercy New Life Hospice for the care and love that that provided to Michael.
