Michael G. Reed Sr.'s Obituary
Michael G. Reed Sr.—dedicated husband, loving father and grandfather, avid golfer, and Harley rider--passed suddenly away on February 3rd, 2024 at the age of 66 in Lorain, Ohio.
Born in Painesville, Ohio on June 30th, 1957, Mike grew up in Mentor where he also met his grade school sweetheart, Kara. Though they lost touch like many do after high school, over 40 years later, a couple of emails were all it took to rekindle that connection. He married Kara--who he called the love of his life--44 years later in 2014.
Mike was someone who left an impression on anyone he met. Whether he was putting around on the golf course (he'd want to make sure everyone knew he got not one, but two hole-in-ones), belting blues and harmonica tunes on the bar stage, or just sipping an IPA at his favorite local brewery while telling stories of past lives, Mike was sure to be full of life, bringing laughter and smiles to those around him. He said what he meant and meant what he said, but he was also full of love and compassion.
And don't let his tattoos fool you--Mike was quite the Renaissance man. A handyman by trade, he enjoyed building, creating, and cooking up just about anything. Scrap sheet metal would be shaped into a beautiful work of wall art, using what his son, Mikey, termed “the long-lost art of soldering.” A broken shower door would be purposely shattered into a propane-fueled fire pit installed in the patio table. A mix of some grape juice, some fermenting, and a bit of time created a strong, sip-able Merlot. He enjoyed making things with his hands, being a member of the American Legion and the Eagles, and spending time with the friends and family he cared so much about. His boisterous laughter and sense of humor (you could take or leave it, he didn’t care) left an impact on all.
Mike is survived by his mother Alyce (Sue) (Reublin) Reed of Willoughby, Ohio; sister Linda (Jack) (Reed)Corso of Willoughby, Ohio; wife of 10 years, Kara (Vorwerk) Reed; two children, Michael (Mikey) Reed Jr. of Willoughby, Ohio; and Stefanie Reed, of Mentor, Ohio; stepchildren Jay Von Hof,
Amy Mazza of Delaware, Ohio, and Tony Mazza of Gallipolis Ferry, West Virginia, along with 5 grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his father Erwin (Sonny) Reed and stepson Tony Boehnlein.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 11th, 2024 from 2 – 5 pm at Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A celebration of life will be Sunday, February 18th, 2024 at Stadium Bar in Mentor, Ohio from 1-6. To send an online condolence, please visit www.dovinreberjones.com.
