Michael J. Tomko's Obituary
Michael J. Tomko, 63, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, August 28, 2019 at O'Neill Healthcare Center in North Ridgeville after a yearlong illness. He was born March 19, 1956 in Lorain, to Michael and Dolores "Jean" (nee Bodak) Tomko and was a 1974 graduate of Admiral King High School.
Upon his high school graduation Michael began working at Ford Motor Company for a year and he then enlisted with the United States Navy in 1976. During his enlistment, he received the Overseas Services Ribbon, 3rd. Navy Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Marksman, 5th. Navy Good Conduct Medal, and the Navy Commendation Medal. He retired in 1996 from the United States Navy at the rank of PN1.
Michael was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan.He enjoyed metal detecting and going to Flea Markets. His greatest love was his wife, his cats, Ralfie, Lucy, Lucky and Rascal.
He is survived by his wife of 13 years, Barbara (nee Guggenbiller); brothers, Dave (Sandra) Tomko of Vermilion and Kenneth Tomko of Lorain; nieces and nephews, Jillian (Jason) Spiegel, David Tomko, Jr., Donovan Tomko, Steven Tomko and Teresa Tomko and great-nephew, Connor Spiegel.
Michael was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Jean Tomko; brothers, Brian Tomko and Ronald Tomko and his sister, Dolores Tomko.
The Tomko family will receive friends Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at The Dovin & Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst from 3 to 7 p.m. Funeral services will immediately follow the visitation at 7 p.m. in the funeral center. Private family inurnment will take place at a later date at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in memory of Michael to the Valor Home, 221 W. 21st. Street, Lorain, OH 44052 or to any Military Organization of your choice.
