Mike Chopich's Obituary
Mike Chopich, age 90, of Elyria passed away Friday, December 18, 2015 at the Villa Camillus Nursing Home in Columbia Station.
He was born on June 4, 1925 in Westmoreland City, PA to John and Mildred Chopich.
Mike served his country with the United States Army Air Corps as a P61 Black Widow Night Fighter Pilot during World War II. He made his career as a Mechanical Engineer with NASA Glenn Research Center, in Cleveland for 18 years, retiring in 1982. During his career with NASA, he worked on many important projects including the Apollo Mission, which he was very proud to be involved in.
After his retirement, Mike purchased a motor home and enjoyed traveling and camping with his family. He was a humble man and will be greatly missed by his family.
Mike is survived by his wife of 24 years, Betty (nee Lottridge) Chopich; daughters, Pat Chopich and Erika Chopich; sons, John (Ann) Chopich, Emil (Pat) Chopich, Stanley (Kim) Benko, Martin (Nicole) Benko, Karl (Sandra) Benko, Jason (Aimee) Benko and George(Rebecca) Benko; 18 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Toots .
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Catherine Chopich; his son, Mike “Mick” Chopich Jr,; his parents, John and Mildred Chopich; brother, Nicholas Chopich; and his sister, Helen.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 at 12:00 noon at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Interment will follow at Elmwood Cemetery, Lorain.
