Mildred L. Welko's Obituary
Mildred L. Welko, age 93, of Lorain, passed away peacefully on Sunday, May 28, 2023, at Danbury Senior Living in Cuyahoga Falls. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, nurse, and cherished member of her community.
Mildred was born on January 11, 1930, in Rivesville, West Virginia, to Richard and Marie (nee Rice) Toothman. She grew up in Rivesville and graduated from Fairview High School. Following her graduation, Mildred pursued her passion for nursing and attended Fairmont General Hospital Nursing School. Later, she served as a nursing supervisor at Amherst Hospital before retiring. Mildred's commitment to the well-being of others touched many lives throughout her career, and her compassionate care will be remembered by those she served.
Outside of her work, Mildred was an avid Cleveland Browns fan. She never missed a game and could often be found enthusiastically coaching her beloved team from the sidelines. In her free time, she found solace in gardening, fishing, cooking, and taking leisurely walks in nature. These activities allowed her to appreciate the beauty of the world around her and find peace in its simplicity.
Mildred is survived by her loving son, Dr. Jeff (Linda) Welko, who brought her immense joy and pride. She adored her grandchildren, Ashleigh, Nicholas, and David, and treasured the time she spent with them. Mildred is also survived by her nephew, Mike (Karla) Smith, who held a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Daniel H. Welko, and her sons, Daniel and Scott Welko; parents, Richard and Edith Marie Toothman, and her sister, Ruth Morgan. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of those who loved her deeply, and she will be dearly missed.
