Nora E. Bailey's Obituary
Nora E. Bailey (nee Pries), a lifelong resident of Lorain passed away Friday, January 20, 2017. She was born on May 14, 1925 in Lorain and graduated from Lorain High School, Class of 1943-B, and was a member of the National Honor Society.
She did secretarial and accounting work for the Brush Beryllium Co. (which included work on the Manhattan Project during WW II) and Scutt Auto Parts as an office manager.
As a member of the Helen Super Frey’s all girl orchestra, she played the saxophone in the 1940’s. They took first place on Burt’s Amateur Hour in Cleveland,
She was the former leader of the DeMolay Mother’s Club in Amherst for 2 terms. She also assisted in organizing monthly luncheon meetings with the local General Motors’ widowed group as well as luncheons with her late husband and his and her graduation class and GM’s local retirement group.
Nora was a member of several senior groups and enjoyed going with her husband to his yearly Army reunions and a former member of the Old Stone United Methodist Church in Amherst.
She enjoyed collecting Hummel Figuirines, Precious Moment’s Figurines, and Waterford Crystal. She also enjoyed traveling and sports, and was a longtime supporter of the U.S. Olympic teams.
Nora is survived by her son, Bruce C. Bailey, of Lorain; grandsons, Jeffrey A. Bailey, of Avon and Todd M. (Becky) Bailey, of Avon; great-granddaughter, Charlotte Mae; 4 nieces; 3 nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Chester, in 2002; her father, John C. Pries, in 1986; mother, Florence (nee Schroeder) Pries, in 1967; and her brother, Robert G. Pries, in 1960.
Private family interment will take place at Elmwood Cemetery, in Lorain.
The family suggest contributions be made in memory of Nora to the Vietnam Veterans of America, 8719 Colesville Road, Suite, 100, Silver Springs, MD, 20910.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center.
