Patricia Amato's Obituary
Patricia Amato (Cook) aged 79 years of Lorain, Ohio passed away on Tuesday, November 16th, at home after a long illness.
Pat was born in Lorain, Ohio on June 21, 1942, on Father’s Day to parents Frances Cook (Niles) and F.M. “Sam” Cook. Pat was a lifelong resident of Lorain.
Pat graduated from Lorain High School in 1960 where she was the Valedictorian of her class. She went on to graduate from Fenn College and Huron Road School of Nursing in 1963. Pat was Valedictorian of her Nursing class and the first recipient of the Dr. Kimmel Award for Nursing Excellence in Caregiving.
Pat started her career in Nursing working for the Lorain City Health Department as a Public Health Nurse. She then taught medical terminology part time at Lorain County Community College (LCCC) for many years. Pat continued her career by teaching Pediatric Nursing at the St. Joseph Hospital School of Practical Nursing in Lorain. Prior to her retirement from LCCC in June of 1997 after 30 years of full and part time service, Pat spent the last 13 years of her career as the coordinator of the of the Medical Assisting Program. During this time, she became a tenured faculty instructor.
Pat was an active member of Lorain Lighthouse United Methodist Church. She served on a variety of committees and was a liturgist and Parish Nurse. She also provided home visits and communion to shut-ins and was a grief support group leader. When her health failed, she still participated by making phone calls and sending cards.
Pat had many interests and especially enjoyed travelling with her husband. Their favorite destinations included Hawaii, the Bahamas and Las Vegas. Pat also enjoyed going to music concerts, reading, playing cards and games, going to movies, and completing word finds. In their younger years, Pat enjoyed ballroom dancing with her husband. In their retirement they enjoyed delivering flowers.
Pat is survived by her two daughters, Christine and Lorraine (Lori), and her two grandchildren, Valerie Kryc and Austin Kryc. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 47 years, Tom.
Pat said her husband and family brought her the most joy. She was particularly proud of the accomplishments of her daughters and grandchildren. Pat will be greatly missed by her family and friends
The family will receive friends on Monday, November 22nd from 4:00 PM – 6:00 PM at the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Out of respect for each other, the family requires masks and social distancing. A private funeral service and burial will be held.
