Ralph D. Moorman's Obituary
Ralph D. Moorman, age 81, of Vermilion passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Mercy Regional Medical Center. He was born on January 2, 1935 in Lakewood, Ohio to Robert and Mathilda (nee Bohland) Moorman and graduated from Westlake High School in 1954 where he played football and basketball.
Ralph enlisted with the United States Marines in 1956 and was honorably discharged in 1959 serving the majority of his enlistment in Japan. He enjoyed boxing and boxed in the Golden Gloves Championship in 1952. The Cleveland Plain Dealer referred to Ralph as “Ralph the Rugged”
He made his career as a Bricklayer and Mason for 36 years with Cleveland Local 5 Union. Ralph enjoyed fishing, dancing, gardening, playing cards and board games and watching the Browns, Indians, CAVS and boxing.
Ralph is survived by his daughters, Marie Moorman Zocolo, of Twinsburg, and Monica Moorman (Nicolas) Ciavarella, of North Royalton; grandsons, Anthony and Alec Ciavarella; sister,Donna Renton; sister-in-laws, Inge Moorman and Fran Moorman; brother-in-law, Richard Smith; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Irene, in March of 2016; parents, Robert and Mathilda Moorman; sisters, Lois (Howard) Jent, Miriam (Phil) Linn, Rosemarie Moorman, Patricia (Ross) Compana, Carol(Richard) Smith; brothers, Ronald (Barbara) Moorman, Robert Moorman, and Vincent Moorman.
The Moorman family will receive friends on Thursday, May 26, 2016 from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 27th. At 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Rev. Fr. Timothy O’Connor, Pastor, will officiate. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
