Raymond Washio's Obituary
Raymond G. Washio II, age 65, of Lorain and Kelleys Island, passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 12, 2012 at St. John Medical Center, Westlake.
He was born on August 29, 1946 in Lorain, Ohio to Raymond G. and Anna M. (nee Birich) Washio. Raymond graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1964. He served his country in the United States Army as a Private and was honorably discharged on August 5, 1967.
Raymond worked in the BOP shop as a Maintenance Foreman for U.S. Steel, retiring in 1999, after 32 years of service. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Lorain the NRA and a lifelong member of the AMVETS. He and his wife, Cynthia volunteered at the 2002 Winter Olympics held in Utah. He enjoyed hunting, shooting, fishing, boating, water and snow skiing.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Cynthia (nee Standen); son, Raymond G. Washio III (Tamara), of Rocky River; daughter, Meredith (Bill) Hinds, of Clyde; grandchildren, Zoey and Harper Washio and Austin Hinds; dogs, Gracie and Cira.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond G. and Anna M. (nee Birich) Washio.
The Washio family will receive family and friends on Sunday, July 15, 2012 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Closing prayers will be held on Monday, July 16th at 9:15 a.m. in the Funeral Center, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church, 309 W. 7th. Street Lorain. Rev. Fr. James Becherer, will officiate. Private family interment will take place at Kelleys Island Cemetery.
