Rev. Dr. Linwood H. Chamberlain's Obituary
Rev. Dr. Linwood H. Chamberlain, Jr. (“Pastor Woody”), age 74, crossed over on Monday, August 16th, at Mercy New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain.
He was the husband of Peggy (nee Friend) Chamberlain. They shared 41 years of marriage together. Born in Youngstown, Ohio, he was the son of Linwood H. Chamberlain, Sr. and Elizabeth Mae (nee Lawson) Chamberlain. He graduated from Hamma School of Theology in 1973, he was a 3 year post graduate from Gestalt Institute in 1980, and a Doctor of Ministry in 1994. He served at St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Mansfield, Ohio for 7 years and then at First Lutheran Church, Lorain, Ohio for 32 years. He was Pastor Emeritus at First Lutheran since 2014. Woody also worked for several years at Mercy Medical Center as a Chaplain. He served on the Northeastern Lutheran Ohio Synod Council, for the Lorain County Board of Mental Health, the Family Planning Services of Lorain County, and on numerous other committees.
He is survived by his wife Peggy, son, Andrew Chamberlain (Julie), and daughter, Allyn Duplaga, grandchildren, Joel Duplaga, and Quinn, Emma and Abby Chamberlain, sister, Sue DeVito, sister in-law, Betty Leapley, and nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Friday, August 20, from 4 – 8 pm in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Friends will also be received on Saturday from 10:00 am until the time of his funeral service at 11:00 am at First Lutheran Church, 1019 W. 5th Street, Lorain.
