Richard J. Benzel's Obituary
Richard J. Benzel, age 83, of Amherst passed away Thursday, January 12, 2017 at Mercy New Life Hospice.
He was born on June 1, 1933 in Buffalo, NY and moved to Lorain in 1958 beginning his career as an Engineer Change Coordinator with Ford Motor Company. He retired in 1988 after 30 years of service.
Richard was a member of St. Joseph Church in Amherst, the Golden Crescent Chorus, and the Eagles Club. He enjoyed bowling and photography.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Janice (nee Jackson); son, Gregg (LeeAnn) Benzel, of Amherst; daughters, Michelle (Ginger) Benzel-Dryden, of Califonia, and Eileen (Charles) Rooker, of Vermilion; grandchildren, Beth Jones, Jessica (Victor) Smith, Doug Benzel, Candis (Andrew) Krieg, Ashley Rooker, and Matthew Rooker; great-grandson, Owen Smith; brother, Howard (Ilona) Benzel, of Florida; and his sister, Betty Yea, of Florida.
Richard was preceded in death by his first wife, Audene, in 1986; parents, Harold Sr. and Margaret Benzel; and his brother, Harold Benzel Jr.
The Benzel family will receive friends on Monday, January 16, 2017 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral &Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. A funeral service will follow the visitation at 7:00 p.m. in the funeral center with Rev. Father Craig Hovanec, Pastor of the Church of St. Peter officiating.
