Richard "Dick" Busser's Obituary
Richard “Dick” Busser, age 91 of Amherst passed away Tuesday, May 26, 2015 at Amherst Manor Nursing Home under the care of New Life Hospice.
He was born on May 6, 1924 in Lorain, Ohio to Lawrence and Gertrude (nee Smith) Busser. Richard enlisted with the United States Army on April 7, 1943 and served his country in World War II with the 585th. Bombardment Squadron. . He received the Good Conduct Medal, Distinguished Unit Badge, American Theatre Service Medal, EAME Theatre Service Medal W/6 Bronze Stars, and the Victory Medal and was Honorably Discharged on November 24, 1945.
Richard was employed as a supervisor with Ford Motor Company at both the Lorain and Avon Lake plants. In the late 1950’s he served part-time with the Amherst Police Department. He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Amherst where he was a member of the church choir. He also belonged to the Senior Fellowship Group and the Amherst Community Choir.
Photography, playing the organ and spending the winters in Florida brought him much pleasure and enjoyment.
He is survived by his children, Ronald (Karen) Busser and Sharon (Mike) Pohorence; grandchildren, Ronald Busser, Tia Busser and Larry Bishop; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Eric Busser; step-grandchildren, Jerry (Susan) Pohorence, Patrick (Bonnie) Pohorence and Cyndee (David) Dickel; and 7 step-great grandchildren; and dear dear friend, Susan Lukesic.
Richard was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Arline, in 2000; parents, Lawrence and Gertrude; brother, Bernard; and his sisters, Audrey Alten and Dolores Stock.
The Busser family will receive friends on Sunday, May 31, 2015 from 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst where closing prayers will be held on Monday, June 1st. at 10:30 a.m. followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph Church, 200 St. Joseph Drive, Amherst. Rev. Fr. Michael Denk, will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Military Honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Military Honor Guard.
