Richard J. Dargo's Obituary
Richard J. Dargo, age 81, of Vermilion, and formerly of Lorain, passed away on Sunday, November 4, 2018 at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Lorain.He was born on May 2, 1937 in Lorain, Ohio to Joseph and Anna (nee Geres) Dargo. Richard was a graduate of Lorain High School Class of 1955. Upon his graduation from high school he went on to further his education at Bowling Green State University, earning his degree in education and then went on to earn his Masters Degree at Case Western Reserve University.Richard made his career in education, beginning as a sixth grade teacher in 1957 at Harrison Elementary School. He went on to teach at Palm Elementary, in Lorain, Yucca School in Palmdale, California, Masson Elementary, in Lorain, and Washington Elementary, in Lorain, and St. Nicholas Academy, in Lorain. He also served as Principal for Brownell All Kindergarten School, Lorain, Harrison, and Boone School,Lorain, Boone School and Lowell School, Lorain, McKinley Elementary, Elyria, and Roosevelt Elementary School, Elyria.Richard served as a Board Member for the Lorain City Schools from 1994-1997, served on the Curriculum Study and Adoption Committees, was a participant of Principal Leadership Academy (State Department of Education), and numerous in service programs, including discipline, curriculum, legal updates, school effectiveness, and counseling techniques. He was the recipient of the Nationwide Grant from the National Science Foundation, and was awarded State Awards for Chapter One Reading Programs and Right to Read Programs. He was a very social and outgoing man who enjoyed being around people. He was a guaranteed good laugh with an infectious personality. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and really had a good time riding around in his grandson's Jeep.Richard is survived by his daughters, Doris Jacopin, of Vermilion, and Debbie (Graham W.) Henderson, of Amherst; grandchildren, Kayli Jacopin, Jordan Jacopin, Olivia Henderson, Graham R. Henderson, Erik Henderson, and Adam Henderson; great-granddaughter, Ashlyn Majesky; sisters, Rita (Dick) Jaworski, and Joanie (Jim) Belu.He was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years, Dorothy (nee Savinsky) Dargo; parents, Joseph and Anna Dargo; sister, Alice Gomolka; and his brother, William Dargo.The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Dovin and Reber Jones Funeral & Cremation Center, 1110 Cooper Foster Park Road, Amherst. Friends will also be received on Thursday, November 8th, from 11:00 a.m. until time of Panachida Services at 12:30 p.m. in the Funeral Center. Rev. Fr.
